WEEK 8 EOC: My Slogan

WEEK 8 BOC: Progress on Final Project

After a week of milling over idea after idea on this final project I am feeling a somewhat exhausted. Initially advertising seemed like an easy enough job to do, but this project makes me realize there is a lot of brain power that goes into this profession. (I'm only doing a class assignment!) On the first day my personal struggle was wanting to pitch an idea that was good enough to be submitted, but instead of going up to pitch my ideas I would trash them on the spot. It was only towards the end of class that I was able to come up with something.
Through the week I couldn't get over the company, Elain cosmetics. It is somewhat of a small company and does not do any large advertising. One product that I was particularly fond of is their Bijou Beam lipgloss. It is a great lipgloss for those who are just starting to use make-up and are looking for a lip color that is subtle but still gives your lips that edge. My pitch was. "Elain Bijou Beam. Lipgloss that leaves you with a shine that gleams." I love the idea that just a little bit of product can give a woman an entire new look and a new confidence she did not have in herself before.
As far as where I am with my project I am still expanding on the ideas for my commercial. It is one that begins in the childhood stages of this girl's life that progresses into the adulthood of Sarah's life. She never thought of herself as pretty due to her childhood friend that repeatedly put her down for a good portion of her life. With Elain cosmetics she found confidence in herself and her smile.

WEEK 7 EOC

Elain Bijou Beam lipgloss, "Bijou Beam, lipgloss with a shine that gleams."

In the beginning frames of this commercial we will feature to children playing in their parents yard where little Johnny gets a little to rowdy with Sarah. He pushes her and makes fun of her for being ugly and having features of a witch. At this time these children are around the age of losing teeth and little Sarah has several gaps and due to lack of good dental hygiene she has traces of rotting teeth. Through childhood little Johnny continues to make fun of her.
In their young adult life Johnny becomes a hotshot popular kid whereas Sarah has been put out of the crowd, she isn't quite developed, to make matters a little worse she somehow adopts that typical "geeky" look. Hair parted down the middle, oval framed glasses, and all accessorized with a pair of braces. Johnny continues to poke fun at her and treats her as one of the guys.
After high school Sarah and Johnny are separated for a couple of years due to college. Johnny misses his childhood friend and calls Sarah up for a little meet-up at a local bar in their hometown.

WEEK 6 EOC: VINTAGE ADVERTISEMENTS

Discovering these ads make me feel a sense of nostalgia. Advertisements in these days were fun and creative.

WEEK 5 EOC: Super Bowl Ads

Week 4 EOC: Role of Women in Contemporary Advertising

In the first advertisement we see that there is a type of hierarchy between the man and the woman in the photo. As I was searching for advertisements showcasing the differences between past and current advertising there seemed to be a theme in older ads, women seemed to have been portrayed in a demeaning way. For example in the vintage advertisement above the woman is in a kneeling position and catering to the man on the bed. The man in the ad has quite the cocky attitude and in print above him it states, "Show her it's a mans world." Below the vintage ad is a more current advertisement that showcases today's vision of a woman. No longer are women posed in a demeaning manner. The woman has every right to be who she wants to be and does not need anyone else to stick her into a certain role.

WEEK 3 EOC: Tobacco Advertisement

1. Determine the scenario: What happens in this frame?

- In this advertisement there is a gorgeous woman staring deeply into the gentleman’s eyes while leaning towards him.

2. What is the setting? What are the conditions?
- The woman and man and are in close proximity of each other while the man blows smoke towards her face.
3. Who are the people or groups?
The people in this photo are fairly gorgeous.
4. What is their point of view around this specific experience?
The point of view is from a man’s perspective.
5. What are their goals?
-The goal of this advertisement is to entice people to smoke Tipalets More specifically to entice men to smoke Tipalets. They reel them in with the slogan, “Blow in her face and she’ll follow you anywhere.” The photo even shows the woman in a leaning position towards the male.
6. What are their assumptions? What are their perceptions?
-Tipalet presumes that smoking is a great way to entice a woman. In the finer print portion of the advertisement it lists the varieties of tobacco they offer which all seem a bit fruity and feminine. This portion even says, “ Oh, yes… you get smoking satisfaction without inhaling smoke.” which seems a little suggestive.
7. Are there conflicts? Is there cooperation?
-There seems to be cooperation in this advertisement. The woman looks longingly into the man’s eyes and her body language even indicates she wants to become cloer to him.
8. What are the outcomes?
-The outcomes of smoking Tipalets give men the power to attract women.
